Recurring event on last weekday of month appears daily

Roy Wylie

I am trying to put a recurring event (have tried all-day, and timed -
result the same) to occur on the last weekday of every month. (with an
ending date). This is in Entourage 2004. The event box accepts this,
and the correct description of the situation shows up in the dialogue
box. But when I click the save button in the box, the event shows up
daily. (At this point, the dialogue box still has the correct
repetition description). Then if I close the dialogue box for the
event, and re-open it, the description of the recurrance now says,
"occurs daily until..."

I have rebuilt my database. Any suggestions about this?

Thanks for the help,
Roy

Hi, Roy

This is BUG, so far undiscovered. I confirm it. Entourage is setting the
recurrence pattern incorrectly.

The same BUG occurs for "Last day of every month": you still get it Daily.

On the other hand, if you choose "The 31st of every month" it gives you an
alert that if the month has fewer than 31 days it will set it to the last
day of the month - and THAT it does correctly!

So it knows how to do it. (I suspect that it's trying to apply a change to
the 'last [week]day of the month' which is illegal, so the pattern just
reset to the default 'daily'.)

In the meantime, I think you'd better set to the the 31st = real last day,
and then go through the next year month by month modifying "Just this one"
for the months which have a weekend date - there should only be about 3 or 4
of those in the average year.

It may be possible that I could write a script to run on selected events to
turn them into the correct pattern, if Entourage doesn't mess with them
after setting. I can't get to it immediately though.

Thanks Paul,

I told you I always find the oddities! I'll just use the work-around.
BTW, do you report things like this to Microsoft, or is it something
that I should do.

Has anyone also seen that recurring events can no longer be edited
individually? You can choose "Open this one" but then can only edit the
time. You can't, for instance, have a recurring event that rotates its
location among different offices. This is a REAL problem. I'm sure it's
probably a bug, but this make it nearly impossible for us to use the
calendar part of the project sharing feature if we can't make these sorts of
edits!

Has anyone else seen this problem?
