Hi,

We are in the process of moving from Exchange 5.5 to Exchange 2000 and are
encountering the following issue with IMAP access:

Many of our departments have general mail accounts, which my admin refers to
as "reference accounts". To access these from Entourage, I enter the account
name in this format: domain\myaccountname\referenceaccount

When such an account is on the Exchange 5.5 server, it works fine. On the
Exchange 2000 server, Entourage sees only the public folders, or none at
all. The normal Inbox, Outbox, etc. folders do not appear in the folder
list. Clicking update list shows a login in the progress window but nothing
else happens. This happens in 10.1.2 and 10.1.4. BTW this behavior happens
in Outlook Express for PC as well.

Can anyone help?

Thanks,

Jack

I've never heard this terminology before, but from the sound of it these
"reference accounts" are just regular accounts delegated to everyone. This
release of Entourage doesn't support delegated accounts. It is on our wish
list for a future release, but for the time being you can OWA to access the
account by pointing your browser to
http://yourservers/exchange/referenceaccount and then using myaccountname
and the associated password when prompted for credentials.

Gil,

It turns out that I misheard the network admin. He explains further as
follows:

=========
Instead of "reference account" I would use the term "resource account".
That is, an Exchange 2000 mail box that is actually a disabled acct, but
the mail is accessed by other users.
=========

We use these as departmental accounts that can be read by several people.
They work fine with the Exchange 5.5 server via IMAP, so I'd imagine it
something to do with Exchange 2000 rather than Entourage. It also doesn't
work under Outlook Express for Windows.

Thanks,

Jack

Gil,

Sorry but I don't understand. Under Exchange 5.5 we have no problem viewing
these accounts. Are you saying that the accounts are handled differently
under Exchange 2000 and Entourage does not support them in that
circumstance?

Thanks,

Jack

My bad.

If you could view these accounts in Entourage as IMAP accounts when they
were on 5.5 and can't view them now that they are in Exchange 2000, then
there are 2 possible explanations. One is that some setting didn't get set
correctly in the move (either on the client or the server, but because it
isn't working in other clients it sounds like it is a server issue), the
other is that something changed in the IMAP implementation between Exchange
5.5 and 2000 that stops this from working.

Unfortunately, I don't know which explanation is the right one.

Gil,

Thanks for trying. Our Exchange Admin is also pursuing this on Exchange
lists and we may just wind up calling Microsoft (sound of $$$$ disappearing
from my budget).
