References and text citations linked

When references and their citations in text are linked, I
need to take that coding off, or else, when the document
is converted into composition software (Quark), the
citations disappear! I've tried converting the whole thing
to a txt file, and that works, but all other important
coding is also gone.
thanks for any info.

Your question isn't very clear. What kind of links are these, and are they
internal to Word or from a 3-party program? How did you create them?

But this might work: the command Unlink Fields will change fields to plain
text (should be control-shift-F9 by default, or dig it out of Tools |
Customize), but I am not sure this works on regular footnotes/endnotes. It
should work on cross-references, though. You can select all and unlink
fields, but do this on a copy when completely done editing, as fields will
not longer update at all.
