Referencing a subform footer column

Well, according to http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=208998 I should be able
to reference the value of a subform field by assigning the control source.
However, while I can get the value by qualifying it from the immediate window
I get the #Name? in runtime mode. Anyone ever overcome this issue in Access
2000?
