Referencing and calculating merged cells

Hi,

I am currently producing a summary sheet that takes data from merged
cells in other worksheets of the same file. The problem I have is that
sometimes the values or formula results are displayed without any
problem and if I perform the same operation on another merged cell he
displays #VALUE!. This happens even though the two merged cells are
formatted in exactly the same way.

Has anybody come across this problem before and can maybe give me a
hint on how to solve this problem?

Thank you for any help.

Stay away from merged cells, sooner or later they will cause problems.
You can basically get the same layout without too much work..
I have yet to se a power user using merged cells..
I have had many nasty experiences working with inherited
spreadsheets that used merged cells and after getting the error message
regardless of it being an error in a formula or excel saying nay I always
remove(d) all
merged cells. So far they all had visual improvements.
