referencing to an external picture

Hi ,
Is there a way to make Power Point use .bmp files that are located in a
different folder to be displayed in a slide show? Power Point can insert a
picture, but then it becomes part of the show. I would like to change the
pictures occasionally, without having to re-insert them into power point and
rebuilding the whole show. For example replace "page2.bmp" with "Page2.bmp"
the same name, but a different picture. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance
for your help.

You can do this - follow these steps which are for PowerPoint 2003 but
should work similarly in other versions.

1. Go to the slide where you want to insert the linked picture.

2. Choose Insert | Picture | From File and navigate to the picture you
require.

3. Don't click Insert - rather, click the downward arrow next to Insert and
this will open a flyout menu - choose the Link to File option.

4. PowerPoint now inserts the picture on the slide - but it links it rather
than placing a full copy of the picture within the presentation.

One thing to keep in mind. the minute you move your presentation all your
links will be broken.

To get over that, place all your images in the same folder as the
presentation even before you insert (link) them - thereafer you can not only
move that entire folder anywhere on your computer - you can also move it to
another computer as long as all the files are still in that folder.
