Refresh button in toolbar greyed out

Hi
I'm trying to customize my toolbar in Entourage 2008. I've added the "refresh" button which supposedly checks for new mail. But it's greyed out and does nothing when I click on it. Does anybody know how this button is supposed to work?

It will work in IMAP folders. Use Send & Receive for your POP3 accounts.
Exchange accounts sync automatically.
