REINSTALLING PROBLEM

R

Rich

Hello All, Im hoping someone can help me with this problem.

Basically, I have an ongoing problem with one of the machines in my
office. All the software was installed before I joined and now one of
the Microsoft packages on a G5 has died (well its lost its security
code/serial number details) and I need to reinstall it. But the genius
who installed the software originally did not mark on the packaging
which pack belongs to which machine. Is there a way of finding this out
with the application on the machine or will I have to install each
version of the office one at a time, wait till it clashes with another
machine, deinstall it then try again until it works...

Sorry of this doesnt make sense... any help will he greatly
appreciated!

Cheers
Rich.

Hi Rich,

I'm afraid there's no way of finding out which product key was used to
activate Office on a machine. As you've guessed yourself, you will need to
use one license until you notice that it's clashing with another machine's
product key. At that point, launch the Remove Office tool in
Applications>Microsoft Office 2004/Additional Tools/Remove Office, and when
the first window shows up, hold down the Option key to change the "Continue"
button to "Remove License Info". Remove your license this way, then launch
one of the Office programs to enter a different product key. That way, at
least you won't have to uninstall and reinstall Office every single time.

Good luck!
