relative dates

I have the same problem that someone enquired about in March, but the forum response didn't really a useful answer. At this point, I have two questions:

1. If unchecking the preference box for "relative dates" and restarting the program or the computer doesn't take care of the problem, and manually importing data to a new user account doesn't stop the program from showing "relative dates" for the messages, what will?

2. Is there an update in the works that will fix this problem?

If you uncheck "relative dates" and restart the app, is the preference still
unchecked. If not, then the problem is probably with one of your preference
files. If so, then the following may help:
