Reminder not working in Calendar or Tasks

OS Windows XP Pro
Outlook 2002

Reminders will not appear if Outlook is minimized. No pop-up, no sound. The new mail notification works just fine. If Outlook is up, you will get an overdue/dismiss notice sometimes. I have tried unchecking then rechecking default reminders in Tools / Options. I have tried Office Repair, I have uninstalled and re-installed Office. I have tried everything I can find that is similar on the Microsoft Knowledge Base. Any ideas? Thanks.
