Remote mail with Exchange 2003 and Entourage

Hey all,

First off, let me mention that I'm a long time Windows/PC guy. Until
recently, this wasn't a problem for me, as my clients all used Windows on
PC. But recently, one of my clients began introducing Macs into the
environment, and I've been bustin my butt to get ahead of the curve.
Currently, my only lingering issue is remote mail access to Exchange 2003
using Entourage. My PC users connect with Outlook 2003 to Exchange using
RPC over HTTP(s). My question is, is there a comparable access method on
Mac? I've read some white papers that reference Webdav connections to the
server, but what I read wasn't clear on how the connections are achieved.

Can anyone shed some light on this for me please? I want to provide good
Mac solutions, but the 'trial by fire' learning model is stressing me out.
Are there any good sites I should check out? Or does anyone have some magic
words for me?

Thanks,

Brandon

Hi Brandon!

You're heading in the right direction. Entourage will use the address
for OWA as the name of the external server. Therefore, if your webmail
address to access Exchange via a web browser is
<http://webmail.company.com> then you'll use webmail.company.com or
webmail.company.com/exchange as your server(s) for the Exchange account
in Entourage.

Be sure that when you're creating the account, you do so manually. Also,
your OWA access from the Internet should be using secure connections.
Therefore, you'll tell Entourage that you're using SSL. Internal to your
network, you typically won't use SSL.

Our company blocks access to LDAP from outside and so we can't do GAL
lookups, but the calendar and public folders
(webmail.company.com/public) still work.

Hope this helps! bill
