Removing all attachments at once

I'd like to convert the mail in my In box into a single Word document, which
is easily accomplished by moving the mbox onto the Word icon. The problem
is that embedded attachments are turned into yards of gibberish, which are
impractical to delete.

Is it possible, therefore, to remove all attachments in a box of mail in one
fell swoop?

Open the folder, select a message, go to Edit > Select All (or press
Command-A), and then go to Message > Remove All Attachments.

I would save attachments to another location before doing this. Or I would
keep the original MBOX file so that the attachments are backed up.
