Removing Office 2000

I am trying to install Office Professional. It keeps
giving me the message "Setup has detected an installation
from an earlier version. Do you want to update?" No matter
what I do, I can not remove the corrupt original
installation and install new. I have tried Add/Remove
programs but it asks me for the location of some file that
I do not have.
