Removing old and outdated contacts? And Syncing to phone?

I've an address book with over 1000 email addresses assembled since 1995,
many are defunct and some I've not corresponded with in years or never. Is
there a way to identify unused and inactive names in the address book and
delete them from the active book?

I want to consolidate my addresses and sync my primary contacts to a new
cell phone, but I don't want to bloat it with irrelevant names....

Thanks
Jeff

Open Address Book
Under View in the Menu bar select Columns --> Last correspondence

Now you can sort by this column. Note some of your contacts will probably
not have a date so be careful not to do a bulk delete. You will probably
have to rely on categories for these contacts.

I'm still using Entourage 2004. There isn't a way to export just the found
list from the address book. That would be helpful. Then delete the found
list. Or save it as another Identity or address book... ?
That would be the best option... A 'just in case' there was someone there I
still needed book...

If you assign a category to these contacts, you can export by category these
to an Entourage archive (.rge). Import this file into a new Identity. Now
you have only those contacts. Export as tab delmited file is now possible.

Dianne, is that now only in 2008? I still have 2004 and am hearing horror
stories from the upgraders. The loss of Macros is kind of a stitch for me.
I use them in Excel for merging column texts and for replacing content
without destroying what's there...

No, that works in Entourage 2004 as well. Entourage X did not export as
Entourage archive (.rge) files.
