Removing span of dates

T

te_butts

When using a simple Gantt Chart how can i remove (hide) a range of dates.

Example:

I have 3 tasks:
from 1/1/07 - 1/10/07
from 1/11/07 - 1/13/07
from 1/14/07 - 1/30/07

I want to hide the task from 1/11/07 - 1/13/07 from showing up on the Gantt
Chart, and squeeze together the gap between the first, and last task.

Is that possible?

Thanks,

tbutts

I don't think so. Who are you hiding it from? ;)

Try creating a formula for a flag field such as Flag1.
The forumula would basically be the date range filter criteria:
Finish>= [some date you want]
AND
Start <= [Some other date you want]

So, if the task meets the criteria, Flag1="yes", otherwise Flag1="no"

Now, autofilter on Flag1="no"

Any task that has any portion in the window should disappear from view.

Of course you can set the flag manually

Actually, this doesn't do what i was trying to explain.

I want the dates at the top or the chart, to squeeze a date range together,
not "hide" a task.

You want "the dates at the top or the chart"? Not following you. If
you mean at the top OF the chart, that's where the timeline is. Do you
want some other dates at the top?

"To squeeze a date range together" - If I'm guessing right here, you
want to shrink the timescale on the Gantt. You can do that with the
Zoom tools, like in most M$ software, in the Standard Toolbar. If you
want something else, please explain in more than 5 words so we can
understand what you want.

No, i dont want to replace the dates with other dates, i didn't mention
anything about replacing.

Let me try and explain it more. It's obviously clear as mud in my head as
to what i want, which doesn't mean much :)

Ok.

In your standard Gantt Chart View, there is a Timeline at the top. Which
includes dates. On the left I have my Tasks, which shows "timeline" bars on
the Timeline view on the same row as your Tasks.

I have 3 tasks with dates:
Task #1 = Dates are from 1/1/07 - 1/10/07
Task #2 = Dates are from 1/11/07 - 1/15/07
Task #3 = Dates are from 1/16/07 - 1/31/07

I want to make it so, Task #2 is there, but hidden( or whatever the keyword
you want to use ) in the timeline - So, once it's hidden, the Timeline for
Task #1 and Task #3 is squeezed together "not showing" the dates for Task #2.

Example

Task # Dates Timeline
1/1 - 1/10 1/11 - 1/15
1/16 - 1/31
1 1/1/07 - 1/10/07 ----------------
2 1/11/07 - 1/15/07 -----------
3 1/16/07 - 1/31/07
-------------

I want it to look like this:

Task # Dates Timeline
1/1 - 1/10 1/16 - 1/31
1 1/1/07 - 1/10/07 ----------------
2 1/11/07 - 1/15/07
3 1/16/07 - 1/31/07 -------------

Does that make more sense? (Pictures are wonderful) :)

Hi ,

You could colour the bar white so that it doesn't show - Format/Bar, select
accordingly.

We can request Microsoft to change the laws of Physics, but last I checked I
don't think they have the ability to create holes in the space/time continuum.

Here's a thought. Since you only have 3 tasks - try using the picture
wizard. You can copy a picture of the Gantt Chart exactly how it appears in
Project. Save the image as a jpg or gif. Open the image in some photo
editor such as Fireworks, or Photoshop.
You can then crop out the vertical time slice that includes the desired
dates thus doing the Time Warp in honor of Monty Python.

Might that help you?
