Reoccurring "configuration" phase of install

R

Rich

On about 6 or 8 machines of our 60+ desktops where we
have Office 2003 installed we occasionally get a pop up
window that says it's configuring Office 2003 (Just like
at the tail end of installation), which then goes away
after about 5 to 30 seconds of configuration.

It doesn't matter if you are running an Office product at
the time or not, and they tend to happen anywhere from 1
or 2 times a day to maybe once per hour on a couple of
computers. I've caught it running on mine while I was
reading a long article on the web - just staring at the
monitor and all of a sudden - BAM "Configuring Microsoft
Office 2003..."

I haven't been able to put a finger on any significant
patterns: some machines are running Office 2003 Std, some
Pro, a couple have Mappoint 2004, most do not, etc. The
only thing I can find they have in common is that they
all got Office 2003 installed via an administrative
installation (that, incidentally, works great on the the
other 55 desktops).

If you need more info, please ask. You can reach me by
prepending the letter r (as in Rich) to my last name
mahlerwein and sending to me at finncorp, which is a dot
com. Some people may think that's way too obfuscated,
but by gosh the spammers can't write a script to grab
that address, now can they?

Thanks,
Rich M.
