Repeated requests for keychain password

When ever the Mac comes back from sleeping and tries to download e-mail I get a dialog box that says, "Microsoft Entourage wants to use the "login" keychain. Please enter the keychain password.

I do so, and all is well... until the next time.

I admit I was looking at the keychain thing and this started after that, but I didn't think I changed anything. Obviously I did. What do I change to get rid of this?

Open the Keychain and be sure it is not locked. Look at the icon top left.

I believe you enabled Keychain's preference to lock the keychain between
uses. Look under Keychain Access --> Preferences --> First Aid. Enable
"Keep login keychain unlocked".

Hope this helps!

Bill and Diane,

Thanks. "login" is not locked. "System" is.

I found that "Keep login keychain unlocked" was checked, but if I unchecked "synchronize login keychain password with account" the messages stopped.

changes above didn't solve it.

I'm tending more and more toward the idea of just rebuilding the whole laptop.

Your thoughts?

Did you try the "Archive & Install"? IF that didn't work then your only
alternative is the "Erase & Install".

When installing use the combo updater rather than Software download. Once
you get installed, you need to set up a backup strategy so you don't have to
go through this again.

We've discussed using SuperDuper!(backup software) before, but this is an
excellent time to remind users about a feature it has that protects you from
system updates that so bad.

One of the options in SuperDuper! is to create what the author calls a
"Sandbox". It's used to revert to pre-update state of your OS. Here's a
description of how this option works:

A Sandbox is a bootable copy of your system, stored on another hard drive or
partition, that shares your personal documents and data with the original.
With SuperDuper!, you actually use the Sandbox as your startup volume. You
can safely install any system updates, drivers or programs in the Sandbox,
without worrying about what might happen to your system. If anything goes
wrong, you can simply start up from the original system. SuperDuper! has
preserved it in its original, pre-disaster state but all your new and
changed personal documents are totally up to date. Within minutes, you're up
and running again without having to go through a difficult and
time-consuming restore process.

SuperDuper also has a "smart update" that makes backing up easy. Scheduling
is only available in the paid version.

SuperDuper! Is $27.95. I¹m not affiliated with the product. Just a satisfied
user. <http://www.shirt-pocket.com/>

I am unaware of what you mean by "Archive & Install" or "Erase & Install."

Oops ... sorry. I read this before the other thread where you expained it.

If you've recently changed your user login password, you need to also
change your keychain password to match. By default your keychain uses
your local user password to auto-unlock your keychain upon login.

Change your keychain password by going to Keychain Access > Edit >
Change keychain password
