Replacing Office Trial should NOT cost $400.00!!! Can't afford!!

Trial Office (60 days) came with computer - trial ran out - went to replace -
COST $400! I'm an old lady on SS and no way can I afford this price! Not if
I went without eating for six months.... My favorite item in Office is
"talking" instead of typing (sometimes my hands hurt, but I'm never short of
words!). Checked out Student/Teacher, but I'm neither & package says you
have to be.....? Course, I'm always 'learning' (does that make me a
student?), and I've done alot of 'teaching' - all age groups (does that make
me a teacher?) - don't know, so not opening the package and am returning it.
It's too much, still, anyway.......

SPAM or a joke? IF you went without eating for six months you would
be dead.

I believe her point was that on a limited income, $400 for software is out
of the question. I understand however decent software is not inexpensive.

I can't help you with the price but I can suggest you take a look at Open
Office. It's free so if you don't like it you haven't spent any money.
You can download it here:

http://www.openoffice.org

It will open most MS Office files.

Open Office doesn't have built in speech recognition as far as I know but
it's changing and improving all the time so maybe it does by now?

It will, however, work with a separate speech recognition program and Dragon
Naturally Speaking costs about $99 if speech recognition is that important to
you.

....

A great deal of decent software is free, even some from Microsoft. However,
Office costs $$$.

Just in case you're choosing OpenOffice... although 2.0 is still in beta,
I'll recommand it over 1.1.4 since it has far less formatting problem when
opening Microsoft Office file formats.

I guess you haven't priced Ferrari's recently. Same song different
verse. IF you NEED it, you CAN afford it.
