replying -- settings are screwed up -- help!!

I can't figure this out. When replying to an email, my reply appears under
note that I am responding to.

Moreover, when I reply the note that I am directly responding to isn't
visible -- it's only visible once the email has been sent, and I view it in
the sent column.

I am absolutely frustrated over this. I've gone to the options and checked
the settings and they seem ok. I have no idea what the deal is.

Any ideas about what I'm doing wrong here?

do you have an addin installed that changes your quoting options? Something
like Outlook Quote Fix?

change the reply settings - and close outlook between setting changes- and
test again
