rescan for clipart (eliminate thumbnails that are missing files)

I just upgraded to 2003. I now have hundreds of clipart files that the new
clipart manager will not render (I was using pub 2000 with CAG). It seems
that a lot of the .wmf files will not render and the clip manager also
searched my hdd and now displays any .jpg that it found (1000s).

is there a way to rescan and clean out the "bad" files???

You can use the Clip Gallery as well as the Organizer. Is it still on your hard
drive? It will be in a folder similar to this:
C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Artgalry
Drag the CAG icon to your desktop and create a shortcut. You can use it as a
standalone application, you cannot insert from it, but you can drag and drop.
In your applications, insert, object, scroll down to Microsoft Clip Gallery.

Are the jpg's part of the Gallery files? If they are, they should be in folders named
corpbas, corpmm, homeanim, photohm and so forth. The Organizer will have the folders
visible.

My ArtGalry folder is gone. I still have a Clipart foleder with a cagcat50
subfolder but it is empty save for a single .gif

I probably should never have installed 2003 as an upgrade but full install
(which might have kept all the stuff I had in 2000. It seems to have wiped
out all of my clipart that I previously downloaded and all of the galleries.

I wonder if I should uninstall 2003 and try to really clean everything up
and then start from scratch downloading all that I want. I have some old cds
where I saved some pretty large folders of clipart. I imagine I can just
import them to a ClipGallery subfolder and use them, too.

The .jpg's I was referring to were not part of any MS download...just
photos that I have on my HDD. I see how to eliminate them from a search, but
it does not seem to be a sticky setting and I have to go back in each time
and uncheck the folder they are in. Does that sound right?

I can see some advantages in ClipGallery but CAG was pretty functional,
especially for large collections.

What do you think?

Thanks for your help...sorry to be so long winded...I use Pub a lot, mostly
for greeting cards... and I had saved all the clip art (leading to some
duplication) since Pub97, so I've lost a lot...but maybe it's time to get new
<g>

Do you have your Office 2000 disks? You can install Publisher 2000. Create a separate
folder on your hard drive and install Publisher there, it will install the Clip
Gallery and the clipart as well if you choose to run all from my computer. I have all
versions of Publisher installed.

As for deleting your .jpg's, can you not select them as a group and delete? You can
save your searches. I'm not sure what you mean by "sticky settting."
