I am trying to figure out how to set a resource to be available only 6
hours of the day on a project. All of my resources work 8 hour days but
2 of those hours are for other task that are not on my projects. Can
someone fill me in on how to do this.

Thanks

hi,

On the Tools menu, click Change Working Time.
In the For box, click the Resource Calendar. Project creates a calendar for
each resource. Select the resource for whom you need to change the time.

To change one day of the week for the entire calendar (for example, to have
Fridays end at 4:00 P.M.), click the abbreviation for that day at the top of
the calendar.
To change all the working days (for example, to have the working day begin
at 9:00 A.M.), click the abbreviation at the top of the first day, and then
hold down SHIFT and click the abbreviation at the top of the last day.

Click Use default, Nonworking time, or Nondefault working time.
If you clicked Nondefault working time, type the times you want work to
start in the From boxes and the times you want work to end in the To boxes.

Not to give you too many choices for how to accomplish the same result...but
you could also set the maximum units for the resources = 0.75. This field
should be on the basic Resource Sheet view, or you can double-click on the
resource and then set the value in the Resource Availability section of the
General Tab. This section allows you to quickly vary the availability over
time (e.g. .75 up to March 31,2006 then 1.00 thereafter).

This doesn't prohibit you from assigning the resource to work 8 hours in a
day, but the default assigned units will be 0.75 and if you load the resource
to 8 hours it will be shown as being overallocated.
