Retrieve Mail from Yahoo

Yahoo only allows this when you've signed up for their premium service at
$19.95/year. The advantage (besides POP access through Entourage) is 2GB of
space, 20MB files per email, and no ads.

If you have just a regular (free) Yahoo account, you're out of luck.

This is true, but only for Yahoo.com. I use a free Yahoo.co.uk account, and
I can download my e-mails via POP. So if you want to use Yahoo.co.uk, you
should go (in the Yahoo webmail interface, that is) to "Mail Options",
select "POP Access and Forwarding" and enable "POP Access". On the same
page, you can also find more info on how to configure your account in
Entourage, i.e. the server settings for ingoing/outgoing messages.

I've just tried this but when I try to receive Yahoo! mail I get the Error:

A connection failure has occurred

(Error: -23012)

:-(

Any ideas ?

I'm using Entourage v.X (10.1.0), OS 10.2.8

Okay, just to make sure:
you are using Yahoo.co.uk, the British Yahoo, right? If you did what I
mentioned in my last e-mail, i.e. configuring your account for POP access
via the webmail interface and then saving that preference, everything should
be ready. What you need to do next is configure your account in Entourage.
Your username is the bit in your e-mail-address before the @ sign, your
password is the same. The incoming server is pop.mail.yahoo.co.uk, the
outgoing one is smtp.mail.yahoo.co.uk.
I don't know if that solves your problem, but this covers the basics that
should be configured. Make sure that your account is set up properly, and
see if it works. If you've already configured everything the way it should,
then I'm not really sure what's causing the error message you're getting.
Let me know if it works. Oh, this is slightly off topic, but I would
recommend that you update Entourage, there's a new updater that will update
all the Office v.X applications to 10.1.6, you might find them more reliable
afterwards.

Yes, my Yahoo! email address is <myYahooUserID>@yahoo.co.uk

I did the configuration... The website said to use authentication - I assume
this means that under Sending Mail...Advanced sending options I select:

SMTP Server requires authentication; Use same settings as receiving mail
server

Then in Entourage Mail, if I invoke Send & Receive...Yahoo mail I get the
following sequence as reported in the Progress window:

Connecting to pop.yahoo.co.uk
Logging on to pop.yahoo.co.uk
Getting authentication method
Logging off of pop.yahoo.co.uk
Connecting to pop.yahoo.co.uk
Sending username <myYahooUserID>
Sending password
ERROR !!!

Hmm, strange... My settings are exactly the same as yours, I also use
authentication. I'm using Entourage 2004, but that should not make a
difference. Still, just out of interest, please try and see if you can get
your account to work with Apple Mail. I assume you are a little bit familiar
with that application, and if not, never mind, setting up your e-mail
account is really easy and straightforward.

Receive Mail didn't produce an error - but didn't retrieve the test message
I sent to Yahoo!

Send Mail gave an error the first time and the message didn't leave the Out
Box on subsequent attempts !
