retrieving files after upgrading

I created new users on my Mac Powerbook G4. Everything was peachy until
I opened Entourage. A new version poped up completely devoid of my old
stuff. I tried an import, but it said it couldn't find my stuff. I bet
this is simple, but I'm at a loss. Anybody else do this?

First, in your original user, go to /Users/<Original
User>/Documents/Microsoft User Data/, and drag the "Office X Identities"
folder to /Users/<Original User>/Public/. Drag it while holding down the
Command & Option keys back to its original location. That creates an alias.

Then, in the new user, go to /Users/<Original User>/Public/, and, while
holding down the Command & Options keys, drag the "Office X Identities"
folder to /Users/<New User>/Documents/Microsoft User Data/ (you might have
to delete what's there already before you can drag the new one in). Then,
when you launch Entourage, you should be able to see your data.

If you're using Entourage 2004, replaces the references to Office X with
Office 2004. In the future, please state which version of Entourage you're
using.

Mickey,

Thanks for the response. I don't know what version of Entourage I was
using. Somebody else put it on my 'puter, and I used it without paying
attention. Evidently, when I partitioned it, then went online, it
updated itself? and yes, now it's 2004. And, I'm using version 10.2.

Now then, the only place I could find "users" is under system
prefs/accounts (it took me awhile to figure this out, 'cause the
documentation I had didn't tell me it was in accounts). Once at the
users tab, I see no option for original user, although I assume that
would be me/my account. But the only thing I can do there is select new
user or edit user or set auto login.

I also lost my files in I-tunes, even though they were all there
immediately after I created the partitions, 'cause I copied my son's
tunes into a shared file for him. Now, when I open it, nothing.

Again, thanks so much for any help you can give me . . .

Cheers, Janeen

If you double-click the hard drive icon on the Desktop icon, you should see
a "Users" folder. There you should be able to find the folders to which I'm
referring.

Mickey,

I did find the folder. Nevertheless, still I have been unsuccessful in
importing the files. I get one of two messages, either it says it can't
find the file, or it says it's not tab-delineated . . . sigh

You shouldn't be using the Import tool with those folders and files. Once
you make sure that the identity folder you want to access is in the proper
place, just go to Entourage > Switch Identity and select the identity you
wish to open.

I am having the same problem. I can't get 2004 E to recognize my 2001
E identity. Even when I transfer the file into the identity folder and
change identites Entourage does not recognize the identity. I too have
tried importing and it says there is a -61 error. Any other
suggestions?
