retrieving old files and addys into new installation

Greetings.

After a HDD crash, I was able to retrieve most all of my files before
tossing
the failed drive.
With a new HDD in place, I've installed anew all of my programs,
including
Entourage X onto OS-10.3.8
Things are moving along nicely now, but I really would like to get back
the
thousands of emails, and the 3 or 4 dozen addys that I had accumulated
before
the crash.
Having saved all retrievable files, I simply can't seem to figure out
what
specific files would contain my old data, nor where they need to end up
in
order to merge with what I've been doing since.

Direction would be greatly appreciated.

hey folks.
maybe this got moved along before it got read. hope so. ;-)
All I really need is the name of the files where Entourage contains
emails and addresses.
Once I have that, I can dig through my recovered files from the crash
and be truly whole again.

Am I mistaken in thinking that this should be a pretty simple question?

I sure hope not.
:)

Thanks in advance for your help,

Hi Daiya.
Thank you for your input.
According to the FAQ page you linked, what I need to do is NOT
possible. It clearly states that you can NOT import from the same
version. (This I noticed when I originally tried to use the import
function.
And since I've been working now in the new installation of Entourage X
I can't afford to lose the new emails in order to recover the old.

Looking through the "Help", I found it interesting that typing "backup
database" brings up how to restore from a backup, and how to do a
rebuild, but it doesn't say anything about performing a backup, or what
files to backup. But then it does say which folders it is to retrieve.
Lacks logic.

And since I don't see any suggestion anywhere of how to merge, I'm
still lost on this issue.

The ball was DEFINITELY dropped when this capability was missed or
designed out.

Most discouraging.

Thanks again, Daiya. Though the news isn't all that great, I do
appreciate the messenger.
;-)

have fun,

Um, I haven't tried this much myself. However, assuming you backed up your
old identity folder, you should be able to make an identity out of it. Once
you have two identities, one with older email, I think you can drag emails
to the desktop in one identity and into the other identity from the desktop.

Okay, I think that method is detailed here:
