RULE working inconsistently - Entourage v11.1.0 (040913)

I have one rule set up in Entourage 2004:

Forward ALL MESSAGES to another e-mail address.

Twice in the past week, I have had a message received at the second address,
but there is NO SIGN of the message at the original address. I've checked
to ensure that it's not in the Deleted Items folder (although I didn't ask
for the message to be deleted afterwards, I checked just in case it was
doing it anyway).

I can only presume that the message must be getting received here at the
first address or it couldn't get to the second address. Therefore, I can
only assume that it must be receiving the message first, and then deleting
it from both the Inbox and Deleted items folder... but WHY???

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Debra

Have you done a very thorough search, such as a simple Find on the
subject of the message including all folders? I don't know of any
reported instance of Entourage receiving a message and deleting it
entirely after forwarding it. I'd suggest turning off any schedules
that do automatic purging of Deleted Items and any other folders, which
is the only way I can imagine the messages could be deleted like that.

Thanks very much for your response!

The mailbox wasn't set up long ago, so there wasn't much to sift through in
the folders, but yes, I did look through ALL folders, visually, and using a
search for either the address or the subject. I have also checked that I'm
not just viewing Unread messages (or anything obvious like that).

Although I did have a schedule set to "Delete all items older than 1 day on
Quit", this person hasn't closed down their email since July, as they need
it to stay on for forwarding. So all deleted messages were still in the
deleted folder, except the missing message.

I have now turned off the automatic deleting of old messages, but I get the
feeling this is not the problem (since no messages had been deleted). My
main concern is that it has only occurred with a couple of the messages, so
it's not happening consistently (and therefore, would be easier to
investigate).

I will watch this carefully and let you know if I have any more messages
that vanish, but in the meantime, if you hear of anything, I'd love to
know...

Thanks again,

Debra

Thanks for your previous response, Allen... Still no luck, though!

I have searched every folder, every item, and I see no record of Entourage
receiving or sending the missing message. I have no automatic deleting of
messages either.

This is still happening - just to the occasional message - despite the fact
that the rule applies to ALL messages, and there are NO other rules at all.

Isn't there some sort of log to view that might show what happened? I just
can't see how it could be received and forwarded (as per the rule) and then
deleted from both the SENT and DELETED ITEMS folder (not in the rule).

I have a copy of one of the disappearing messages (received at the forwarded
party's end) showing that it was sent to the original address, in case there
is some routing info buried in it that might help...

Any new ideas would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks very much,

Debra
