Rules and Alerts window will not open in Outlook 2003!

To be precise, it opens for about a 1/10th of a second--to brief to even read. Then it closes again without a trace and no error messages. Any explanations/suggestions?

I have noticed that the above error is accompanied by Event ID: 27 in the Application logs, but all it says is "the operation failed."

The error seems to be linked to the user profile in outlook.

I fixed it by running outlook with the /cleanprofile switch and then selecting "new" when the profile box pops up. You could also probably recreate the profile using the E-mail icon in Control Panel.

thanks for the tip. it appears to have solved my problem

note though that this erases your address book and other information. so back that up first.
