Rules in Entourage 2004...

Help!

I have rules set-up, but they do not apply themselves. If I highlight all
messages, then run the rule manually, they work fine.

They senders are not in the Mailing list (I understand that there are
problems with this.)

I only have two rules running, so I know that it is not a 'first rule only
applies' problem.

Where am I going wrong?

All Rules are active... I Have even tried deleting them, and then re-setting
them up... Still no joy.

Any help, please e-mail me at [email protected]

Thanks,

Westy

Generally that's a sign that a Rule higher up the list is firing and it has
the "Do not apply" checkbox enabled.

Turn off Junk E-Mail Protection under "tools". It worked for me.

Gee. Nifty new feature, Microsoft. Thanks.

Please post back here whether or not it works for you.

Try turning off the Junk E-Mail Protection under "tools".

Please post back here if it works.

I only have one rule set-up now, and still no joy...
Any other ideas?

Reporting back again. That fix only worked for the test emails
forwarded from my own account back to me again. The messages I am
trying deal with are from a list. Very simple rule: looks for a text
string in the subject line, rule should then move the email into a
folder.

Running each rule independently works, but not if "all rules" is
selected.

I've tried:
* creating a new folder
* deleting all rules and rebuilding
* deleting the rules file from inside user data, then reubilding
* deleting "Entourage Preferences"
* setting junk mail filter to "none"

I was having this same problem on a different machine, and it
continues on a new machine.

Everything was working fine a few weeks ago, and the only thing I
could remember was changing the junk mail filter, but now that has
been reset.

???
Perplexed. Frustrated.

Mike,

I turned off the Junk filter, and still no joy. I have tried
everything, and still they do not work. As you have said, if I click
on messages, then apply one rule at a time, it works fine... All rules
(I now have two set) does nothing.

Have you sent this to Microsoft?

Westy:

I have the exact same problem!

The rule works just fine when I apply it manually, but just won't work under
it's own steam! What the heck is going on with 2004?

I only have two rules running, the "Do not apply" checkbox is not enabled,
Junk Mail is turned off, and all that stuff that all the posts everywhere say
can get in the way.

Is anyone out there in Microsoft land listening?

Is your email account POP or IMAP? And are your rules in the Mail (POP) or
Mail (IMAP) list?

It's a POP email account with a POP rule. I've made sure there are no
Mailing List Managers going, also.

Thanks!
