Rules not working automatically

Robert Barrimond

Hey Folks,

I have two earthlink accounts I filter with a rule for each that marks a
message as junk mail if the sender is not in my address book. I have a
third rule that moves those messages to a folder to house them for auto
deletion. The problem is that Entourage will always execute these rules for
one account and never the other. I've played with "Do not apply..." check
box, switch the order, renaming the rules, and renaming the accounts. The
rules work if applied manually however. I first apply the filter then the
move rule. Unfortunately this doesn't work if I Apply All Rules to messages
in my inbox. What gives? What's even more weird was that initially this
was working fine. Entourage simply up and decided it was no longer going to
filter messages automatically any more.

Do you have the Junk Mail Filter activated? It works on all accounts. See

Have you ensured that the "Enabled" checkbox is checked for each rule? I
know that sounds simplistic, but the symptoms you describe match exactly
what would happen if the rules were not enabled.

If that doesn't help, try deleting and re-creating the rules. If that
doesn't help, do an Advanced Rebuild. First, go to Entourage -> Turn Off
Office Notifications. Now, quit Entourage, and then restart Entourage
holding down the Option key. When the Rebuild dialog box comes up, choose
to do an Advanced Rebuild.

Unfortunately, I had done everything you all have suggested except the
advance rebuild. Nothing worked. I still have to execute the filter
manually. I noticed also that Entourage will skip to my Inbox if I select
other folders in the Folders sidebar. Could there be some mass corruption
in the database? Wouldn't have this been corrected by the Advanced Rebuild?

I've don¹t it all. Enabled JMF, created all the necessary rules, Advanced
Rebuild, Typical Rebuild, updated to 10.1.4. I've checked the website and
followed your guidelines. For some strange reason, the rule will not
execute. It works manually, but never when I select "All Rules."
