We're running a mail merge to Word 2003 from another
Windows-based app (not MS) and getting a runtime
error '509', but ONLY when Outlook 2003 Mail Format is
set to use Word as either "email editor", or to "read
rich text", or both, AND word.exe has been invoked
through that process BEFORE attempting to run the mail
merge. The debug points to this statement - -
WordBasic.MailMerge CheckErrors:=2, Destination:=0,
MergeRecords:=0, From:="", To:="", Suppression:=0,
MailMerge:=1 which has always worked under this
condition with other versions of Office. Also - with
winword.exe not invoked by Outlook, or invoked by other
means (shortcut etc) the merge runs without error. We can
also kill winword.exe from TM and make the merge run.
We've told users not to use Word from Outlook but this
still leads to plenty of job security...need to prevent
the error at it's source as we can't seem to trust our
users to follow instructions.
