I have the following problem. In column A I have a long list of account
numbers. Some are the same. I sorted column A after these account
numbers (grouped them). In column B I have amounts which belong to the
indivdual account numbers. Now my question: How do I get excel to add
up all amounts in column B that belong to the same account number?
Please see a small sample of my spreadsheet attached.

Hi
one way:
- select your range
- goto 'Data - Subtotals'
- choose your options

Thanks a lot, subtotals worked very well. My next problem is that
would like to continue with the subtotals only. How do I eliminate al
the data between my subtotals (obviously without the subtotal
changing)? Greatly appreciate your help

Here an attachment to illustrate what I was talking about in my las
question. Again, I would like to only keep the subtotals

Hi
one way:
- collapse your data so only the subtotals are visible (click on the
'-' in the left border)
- copy this data (CTRL+C)
- goto your desired target range
- goto 'Edit - Paste Sepcial' and choose 'Values' as action

sorry frank. collapsing the whole thing and pasting value only did no
eliminate data between the subtotals. i tried it in my sheet as well a
in the above attached sample. is there any other way

I did not figure out another way yet. Is this thing with collapsing th
column and pasting values only working for you. In my sheet it stil
takes the values between the subtotals
