Save as box

My Outlook 2002 running on Windows 2000 Professional platform is doing an odd thing. When any e-mail is selected, a save as box opens and wants me to save the e-mail. This is inconsistant at best. Canceling closes the window of course, but on several occasions, it pops right back up...twenty times before closing and staying closed, until the next time. Needless to say, this is unnacceptable for work purposes. I am going to uninstall Office 2002, reboot, and re-install and I'm very sure that will correct it, but I wondered if anyone has run into this with a simpler solution.
