Saving files to a flash (USB) device

I support an academic environment teaching OfficeXP Pro
where students create large sized documents. In
Publisher, the default file save location has been
changed to point to the USB device, however Publisher
does not always redirect to the USB device when saving
files. This procedure works successfully using OfficeXP
Pro Access/Word/Excel/Powerpoint and seems to fail only
in the Publisher component of Office XP Pro.

Steps taken: with Publisher open, I chose from the menu
Tools/Options/General/File Locations/Publications and
selected the device for the flash drive. My computer
sees the device and writes to the drive most of the time
but often gives an error message "no foppy disk in the
drive".

Need your ideas!

Save to the hard drive and copy to the Flash drive. Publisher has never been keen
saving to something other than the hard drive.

Most aware applications are hesitant to save to a removable of any type.
Especialy if it has just been inserted after the app has started up.

better to establish temporary directories for each student and then have
them d 'n d the files to the flash drive.

this scheme also has the strong benefit that it requires your students to
learn a little something about file management--something a huge number of
users out there are totally ignorant about.

(oh for the days before HDD and when we only had a single SSSD floppy!)<G>
