Scheduled send & receive on a laptop

I have Entourage installed on my laptop and there are many times I have the application open while I am not online.

I don't want to have to keep turning the settings to offline but if I don't I keep getting error messages stating that Entourage cannot connect to the server.

Surely, the program should be clever enough not to try and download email when I am not connected to the internet?

Tools > Schedules, each schedule has a checkbox "Only if Connected."

The "Only if Connected." option is selected.

Looking at my laptop there are now no error messages, but if I disconnect from the Internet for a few minutes there errors will re-appear.

The nature of IMAP is to synchronize with the server. Unless you select
Entourage --> Work Offline then it assumes you are online and wants to
connect.

Entourage is not responsible for detecting whether or not your network
connection is working. It's only responsible for talking to your server.
If it can't talk to the server then you'll receive error messages. You
need to tell it that you're not online.

Hope this helps!
