Scrambled documents

I have the opposite problem from many posts here. I'm using Publisher 2002
(Office XP) with Windows XP to publish a 40 page A5 newsletter. Instead of
getting blank boxes for graphics, it seems like all of the text boxes,
graphics, and anything else gets dumped onto the opening screen in some
haphazard manner. Then the font selection box opens up. If I go ahead to
open the document it is completely uneditable and unreadable because it looks
like all the elements of the document are piled up on the screen like a pile
of dirty laundry. The problem is intermittent...sometimes the document
opens, more often it does not. I have tried the video accelerator trick
and have tried changing default printers, to no avail, I'm using Kaspersky
antivirus, . Any clues, anyone? What else do I need to communicate? Thanks
for any help you can give.

Thanks Mary;
You're an angel, and from the number of helpful hints I've picked up reading
through this area have been for some time now. We recently changed computers
and files from the old computer were scrambled in the new computer. I
stumbled on a solution of renaming the file using "save as". Publications
with a new name seem to open with no problem. What you or someone else said
about Publisher saving printer data and other information in the file sparked
the idea. I suspect the old computer information was causing the files to
scramble but saving it again in the new computer replaces the information and
allows the file to open.
Thanks again for your good help. The damaged file info should be useful in
the future.
