screen zoom resize problem

Dear All,

Simple problem - hopefully there's a simple fix. When I open any
document (new or existing), it leaves a gap of about 1" below the
(Mac) menu bar. I then have to drag the document to resize. Not a
problem once or twice a day, but I tend to open dozens of documents a
day and it can get tedious.

note: I invariably use the same computer and screen - Mac PBG4 with
17" screen. I use 'online layout' view so that I don't have to see
page breaks. I also use a macro to open new documents in this view.

thanks in advance.

Open your Normal template, fix it, add and remove a single letter from the
text (e.g. A space) then Save and Close.

should be OK after that...

Cheers

Thanks John,

I've followed your instructions - saved the 'normal template' -
unfortunately the problem persists.

Watching closely, I've noticed that documents open at the correct full
screen size and stay that way for an instant, then they're being re-
sized. It's as though a macro were running to change them. So, I've
deleted all my macros to make sure it wasn't one of them causing the
problem. Still stuck.

Further testing: the previous observation only applies after I've open
'normal,' fixed the size, made and deleted a change, saved, quit. Then
when I reboot Word (X service release 1), the first document opens at
full size for an instant, before being mysteriously 're-sized'.

Subsequent openings are all immediately at the smaller size.

I think I've found the problem. I had a custom toolbar which I'd moved
to the top right hand corner of the screen. The documents are re-
sizing themselves to dodge the toolbar. (I can hear Homer Simpson's
catchphrase ringing in my ears).
