Script make website running slow

Occasionally on my site I get an error that a script is making the website
run slowly. I had a customer tell me the same thing today. The only thing I
can figure is the Java for the drop down menus is doing something
occasionally.

The website is www.stillboardin.com and the main content was created using a
dynamic web template

The page http://www.stillboardin.com/Wheels.htm weighs in at 960KB,
which is huge for a web page - 60KB is the target you should aim at.
It's no wonder some people find the site slow. 960KB will take about
5 minutes to download on a dialup connection.

The biggest problem is the background image - 490KB should be closer
to 4KB. Some of the images need to be optimised. There is nothing in
the scripts on the site that would seriously affect speed, and there
is no Java in sight - did you mean that totally unrelated animal,
JavaScript?
