Script to download full message from headers

Does anyone know if it is possible to create a script that will
automatically start downloading large messages when they arrive in the
entourage inbox?

I receive emails that have huge attachments so I need to setup
entourage to only received the headers of large messages otherwise I
will have many emails queued up on the server behind the large email
as it is downloading. Everything works fine but I basically need to
download all the emails and attachments eventually anyway, so I have
to always manually click on the option to get the rest of the message
for all emails.

The optimum scenario for me would be to keep headers on, but create a
script that would be activated by a rule and automatically start
downloading all messages after the headers are downloaded. This would
enable me to see all emails and work on them while the large ones are
downloading the attachments in the background.

Any ideas?

Thanks

You don't have to download the large messages one at a time. Just select all
the messages not yet downloaded and select Retrieve Entire Message from the
Message menu. In fact, there's no harm including messages that have been
fully downloaded; Entourage won't download them again. You can even look at
already downloaded messages while Entourage is downloading others.

To me the easiest way to do this is to sort your inbox or folder by "Sent",
then click on the newest item and shift-click on the oldest message that
needs to be downloaded.

I hope this helps.

Thanks for the suggestion. I will try it out. For some reason
Entourage will not download very large messages (6MB and greater) even
when I click on the link to Get Entire Message. I kept Entourage
connected and downloading then hours later the email still hasn't
downloaded. I have to revert to using OWA to download the large
attachments then delete the message.

This is probably a size limit from your server.

This has something to do with Entourage not the server. I can download
large emails (up to 20mb) very quickly using Outlook in windows or
download the attachment manually using OWA, but for some reason
Entourage won't download large emails. The big problem is that I
don't get a status when I click to receive the entire message, so I
don't know if it even starts or if it is hanging up somewhere in the
download. Is there anyway to determine the status of the download of
a large message?

You could try using tcpflow to monitor the network.

Another application I ran into recently that does the same thing but has a
different interface.

EavesDrop....Let it capture some stuff then double-click any of the lines of
text in the main window to see more detail.

Thanks for the advice. I used the Eavesdrop program and it worked
flawlessly. It seems that my emails are downloading, but the
attachments just download very slowly compared to Windows Outlook or
OWA. I'm not sure why, but at least I know that it works.

Glad you found your answer and to know that Eavesdrop worked for you. It's
way kewl to watch stuff download via the terminal using tcpflow and see
what's actually happening and all of the code that goes into a message or
web page.
