Scripts Disappeared?

DeWayne A. Nelon

All of a sudden there are no no longer any Entourage Scripts under the
script menu. I have rebooted, and added all of the scripts back into an
³Entourage² folder I created in the Scripts Menu folder. I have used them
for quite a while (many were written by the inimitable Mr., Berkowitz) until
³poof² they were all gone this morning. Any ideas?

folder I created in the Scripts Menu folder. I have used them for quite a

Scripts for Entourage are best run by Entourage itself from its own Script
menu, next to the Help menu. To be available there, you have to put them in
~/Documents/Microsoft User Data/Entourage Script Menu Items/. Not inside an
"Entourage" menu. (And if you see a plain "Script Menu Items" folder in
there, that one belongs to Outlook Express - nothing there will show up in
Entourage.) If you were using this Script menu (the one belonging to
Entourage), it sounds as if you must have moved the Entourage Script Menu
Items out of the Microsoft User Data folder: find it and put it back. Or
could you have renamed it? If you removed the "Entourage " from the
beginning of its name, Entourage would ignore it and you'd find no script
menu or it would be empty.

On the other hand, if you ever installed the system's Script menu, via
/Applications/AppleScript/Install Script Menu, it's over on the right side
of the menu bar, next to the clock or thereabouts. It is possible to run
scripts from there too, though less efficient. To appear there, you'd put
the scripts into ~/Library/Scripts/ or /Library/Scripts. (~/ means your user
folder.) You could create a folder called "Entourage" in either, to be a
menu item. Or, in the former, you could create a folder called
"Applications", and within that one called "Microsoft Entourage" (exactly):
if you did that the scripts would only show up when you are in Entourage.
The system Script menu could disappear in Jaguar if you drag it off the menu
bar; in Panther there's an Uninstall Script Menu file in
/Applications/AppleScript/. And it might well happen due to some "flakiness"
in the system that i just might disappear.

Is it possible that you're mixing up the two Script folders? If by any
chance you were using the system Script menu and it disappeared and now
you're looking in the Entourage Script menu, you'd find only the few default
scripts that shipped with Entourage. To get the system Script menu to appear
again, launch /Applications/AppleScript/Install Script Menu. But I'd guess
you were using the Entourage Script menu all along and somehow moved the
Entourage Script Menu Items folder out of the MUD folder.

Your description was unclear. Which folder, exactly, were you using for
scripts?
