Search & Replace to be used for "insert" additonal text / formats?

Can I use a search string to look for a specific formatted text and then just
let word extend the found items by an sign/charackter at the end of each item
found?

If I do it the whole items found get replaced = deleted, but I want to keep
them..

Wht am I doing wrong?

In the Find and Replace dialog, click in the "Replace with" box, then click
