Skype (VOIP dialing software) changes any phone number (which originally is
just a plain text)shown on the user webpage into the hyperlink with the
little telephone icon attached to it.
I wonder how that can be done?
That happens on the user computer. So, java script is out of question.

It's a browser add-in provided with the latest version of Skype. The
Hyperlink sends the number to Skype which calls the number.

Can you please provide some links I can read more about such IE add-in?
I would like to program it myself something similar to it.
I wonder how Skype is finding the phone number on the webpage?
Does it read all text and filter numbers to set criteria?
Can IE add-in do that?

You install Skype
Skype has an add-in for IE
When add-in is activated, it looks for phone numbers- if
found it creates a link for your installed version of Skype
to work with.

Want to do your own?
Visit one of the inetexplorer sdk programming or add-ons
NGs, as this functionality is not web page based- it is
client programming.
