I wish to use a dropdown box for the users' convenience, but not limit
them to the dropdown items alone. Currently, you cannot enter any
data other than that in the dropdown. Can this be done?

This is what a combobox is.

Add a combobox from the Forms toolb ar, or from the Controls toolbar.

If you are using data validation, go to the "Error Alert"
tab, and remove the check box from the "Show eror...." box
