Send a group (dist list) to another user

Q

questioneveryclaim

I have searched and searched to no avail...

I simply want to send a group to another person, so that person can use
the same group. Said another way:

If a secretary in an office creates groups representing different types
of recipents (customers, staff, shipping, directors, whatever), how can
she then distribute these groups to other people in the office for them
to use?

Seems like a simple thing. Seems like a commons thing. I cannot find a
way in Entourage, nor in Outlook. What am I missing?

Thanks for any help...

Compose a new message. Move it off to the side of your window.

Open up your Address Book. Drag the Group into the *body* of the message.

You should see the group's name and contents in the body of the message. ie:

My Group
[email protected]
[email protected]
[email protected]

Send the message.

The recipient can open up the message and move it off to the side. They can
go into their Address Book, create a new Group, and drag the recipient list
into it. They can save the Group and will now have it available to them.

Note that this will not synchronize the Group. If changes need to be made,
they'll need to be re-sent out to everyone. If these group lists start
getting large, you should talk to your Internet provider about creating
broadcast-only mailing lists with management functions.

Adam,

Thanks for the reply. Okay, I'm not daft because I couldn't find the
most obvious way. The method you describe is the only way I could
figure out to do it, too. Of course, it isn't actually sending the
group, but rather sending one group's contents to another user who then
creates a group and inserts the contents you sent. Wouldn't it be
easier if I could just send the group?

It turns out that in Outlook, when you click on the paper clip (or menu
equiv) to attach, you have a choice of attaching an item or a file. In
Entourage, you only get one option- to attach a file through the
standard 'Open File' dialog box.

In Outlook, the 'Attach Item' option opens a dialog box to Outlook
objects, such as folders, lists, groups, etc.

"That's what I want to do in Entourage", I whined mournfully. Why is
this not an option in Entourage? Or is there another way to do this
that I haven't found?

Again, Adam - thanks for the reply. It verified what I'd observed to
this point.

Thank you, Diane. Lots of great scripts. Unfortunately, as far as I can
tell, none of these overcome the glaring shortcoming in Entourage of
not supporting the most obvious method - attaching a group to an email,
like you can in Outlook.

Is this being addressed in a future release?

Thank you again...

I recommend sending Feedback to Microsoft. This is not a feature I've seen
oft-requested.
