Send from either of 2 addresses?

Hi, have just had an Exchange server installed to allow us to receive
email from 2 email addresses into one Inbox but we need to choose which
address to reply from. What is the easiest way of doing this for the
enduser? ie can we set up 2 Send addresses in one account? Thanks.

I'm not aware of an easy way to do this cleanly, as you'd have to define two
overall mail accounts (i.e. incoming as well as outgoing) in order to do
this. In Entourage today, there is no difference between receiving/sending
accounts. However, you _could_ still define both, yes, but you'd have two
incoming accounts defined.

I'm not entirely sure I understand your scenario. Are you saying you have
two generic e-mail addresses that are sent to one inbox? Or are you saying
that each user will have two addresses?

For generic addresses, you might want to consider using a mail-enabled
Public Folder.

For multiple addresses per user, I'd recommend using whatever e-mail address
is defined as the default SMTP account, and/or whatever address is published
in the Global Address List (GAL). I have some experience with that, and if
you settle on that it might make your life easier, particularly if you're
using free/busy and Exchange calendaring.

HTH.

Not at all.

You can leave the 'receiving mail server' field blank in the 'send only'
accounts you define. You will receive a warning when you close the accounts
dialog to let you know that you won't be able to receive mail from this
account, but that's OK - it will let you create such an account (such an
account would NOT be an exchange account - define it as POP - since you are
only sending, that will be more than adequate)

It would probably be a good idea to exclude such an account from the &RA
schedule as well, to prevent a recurring error that 'mail could not be
received...'

With more than one account defined, entourage will display a drop-down menu
in the addressing portion of a new message window that will allow you to
select the sending account.

Both these scenarios are quite common.
For generic addresses, you might want to consider using a mail-enabled
Public Folder.

That would be OK for receiving mail from two addresses, but the OP asked to
be able to choose which address to send from.

Thanks for this. I'm not clear on what you mean about excluding the &RA
schedule? Can you elaborate?
Our Exchange department have come back and suggested the following;" If
people wish to send from different addresses you need to setup multiple
smtp accounts in Entourage for each of the addresses so that
the users may choose which one to send from as they did before. The
server is setup to accept emails sent to them on the variety of
addresses..." Is this what you mean? And then the user Switches Id
between them? I get confused with different 'accounts' and different
'profiles'.

Under the 'Tools' menu, select 'Schedules', then open the 'Send & Receive
All' schedule for editing. Make sure you 'send only' accounts aren't listed
in there to receive mail when the schedule is run. The first action of the
S&RA schedule should be to 'send all' which will send mail from every
account - no need to list them.

Yes, your Exchange Department and I are describing the same thing - setting
up a 'send only' account. They describe it as an SMTP account because that
is the protocol the account uses to send mail.

When this is set up, an additional 'from' box appears in the message
addressing part of the new mail window, just above the 'To', 'CC', 'BCC'
boxes. This allows you to select which account to use to send the mail on an
individual, mail by mail basis.

Hi Barry, you kindly offered me advice on the below scenario, but I am
not clear on how to 'Make sure you 'send only' accounts aren't listed'
in the Send &Receive All schedule. How do I choose the account in
order to deselect this option? Thanks.

When you go to Tools > Schedules > Send & Receive All, you should see a list
of accounts that are being checked below the "Action" section. If there are
any Send-Only accounts listed there, highlight them and click on the "Remove
Action" button.

Sorry if I'm being slow here, but I still don't follow. Below the
Action section is Send All option only. I would have to Add Action if
I wanted any accounts to appear by name. I have tried leaving the POP
address blank and all I get is unknown error -50!

Open the account. Uncheck "include this account in my "send & receive all"
schedule.
