send to contact groups

Maybe I am a complete idiot but I cannot figure out how to send a message to
all in a certain contact group/category. How do I send a message to all the
people in a certain category/group?

Add the name of your contact group to the To field. When you send the message
the "contact group" name is replaced by its members.

Two different questions.
Outlook does not use "groups." You can create Distribution Lists and send
messages to the DL.
Or you can use categories. Use the "By Category" view to group your
Contacts, click on a Category header > Actions > New Message to Contact...
