send to mail recipient as attachment doesnt work properly from word or explorer in outlook 2003

i have outlook 2003 on winxp pro.

frequently, when i do a send to mail recipient (as attachment) in word or
explorer, it just sits there and doesnt do anything. if i select "save"
then close the box, the email is shown in the inbox; if i open it and hit
send, it works from there.

this is really annoying.

any thoughts on how to fix this? it only happens on my desktop computer,
not laptop, and they have essentially identical softare. (but somethings
different....)
