Sending an attachment doubles email size...

Hi everyone.

Does anyone know why entourage increases the size of it's email when you
attatch something? e.g. I recently sent an email with a 2.8MB zip file
attached. When I look at the progress window/bar, it tells me I'm sending an
email of 3888kb.

This also happens with smaller attachments. A file may be 30kb, but it'll
send as 47kb etc...

Any ideas?

_thanks in advance

To safely encode a binary file to send over the Internet, Entourage converts
the data into 7-bit "low ASCII" characters. This requires more space, hence
the increase in file size.
