Whenever times mail are sent from outlook 97 the person on the receiving end doens't receive the files sent, instead they receive and attachment with ".dat" extension. What does this mean? Is there any way of rectifiying this problem

I would appreciate an early response as soon as it is possible. Thank you.

The most probable cause of this is that you are sending in Rich Text Format
to a non-Outlook user. Try changing the email format to Plain Text
(preferred) or HTML.

In addition to the solution below check to ensure that the
properties on the contact name (smtp-internet tab) does
not have a check mark in the "Always send messages in
Microsoft Exchange Rich Text Format" box. Let us know if
this worked for you.
