Sending username/password in clear text

Hi,

Is there an option to not send the user name and password as clear text in
Entourage, or a way to set it up so that those elements being sent to the
server to authenticate are encrypted for increased seucrity ?

Thanks
Frank

If you are referring to an Exchange Account, your server would need to
have an SSL certificate installed.
I don't think there's anything you can do for POP accounts.

Are you using Entourage X or Entourage 2004?

I'm using Entourage 2004.

I'm wondering... the option on the security tab for an IMAP account offers
an option to "Encrypt contents and attachments for all outgoing messages by
default"
Does that include the user name and password being sent to the server ?
I know that its in theory possible since by default any data sent between
the Exchange server and Entourage does seem to be encrypted, including
sending the user/pass... I'm just trying to get the same type of security
for IMAP.

Thanks
Frank

Nope, that's for e-mail content. It's using S/MIME certificates to
encrypt the e-mail content,

The problem you have is caused by a clear-text comminucation with the
server.
Some servers accept communication through SSL, but it definitively is up
to the server. You can check with your ISP to see whether there is this
type of connection supported on your server.

It can be done... It all depends on what your ISP offers.
