Sent Folder Not Syncing - Entourage 2008

Chris Cantrell

Hi, I have a problem ... and tried to search the group for an answer, but
could not find one. My Sent folder is not getting copies of messages that I
send via Webmail, BB or another Outlook 2003 client. Both Webmail and
Outlook show all the messages I sent, but Entourage 2008 is only showing the
messages I sent from it.

Am I missing something really basic here? Sorry :)

Thanks,
-chris

That's the way it is designed to work. Items you send via webmail, etc., get
stored in the Sent Items folder of that application. Entourage stores only
those messages that it sends; it is not aware of the others.

OK, thanks for the reply

Is the Sent folder the only folder that does not maintain a bi-directional
sync with the Exchange server?

When I switched to Entourage 2K8, it pulled down all the mail I sent, that
my Outlook client had sync'd back to the Exchange server previously. In the
past, I've used two Outlook 2K3 clients on two different systems (home &
home) and they both kept the Sent folder in sync. If this is by design, I'm
not sure what the reason behind it would be. In my experience, it seems many
of us use a combination of say webaccess and a full client and having the two
Sent folders be kept in-sync would seem very reasonable. No?

Thanks,
-chris

Would a work around be to go into properties of the sent folder, clear cache
and re-sync?

I disagree. I use Entourage in an Exchange environment, and items I
send from my blackberry or Outlook Web Access DO show up in the sent
folder of Entourage.

I don't know why yours isn't working (sorry), but at least you should
know that it works for me so that hopefully you can pursue and find
the answer for how to make it work for you.

Awesome news ... thank you for letting me know yours is working.

I was a little scared when I heard this is by design. Now I just need to
find my problem and the search will continue. I have tried both WebDav, OWA
access and direct Exchange, both don't sync.

Cheers,
-chris

How are you connecting Entourage to Exchange? Via front-end or back-end
server? What version of Exchange Server? It should be at least at
Exchange Server 2003 sp2, preferably later.

Have you tried using Entourage --> Switch Identity... and testing the
same account in a new identity?

Sorry. You didn't mention before that you were using Exchange. My
misunderstanding.

Entourage does not sync its Sent Items "On My Computer" with POP or IMAP
accounts.

I have not tried anything else yet ... still trying to understand the state I
am in. I just noticed that any message I have created with Entourage 2008 is
in the Sent Folder on my local PC but on my Exchange Server. Now I have some
here and some there and to make matters worse, the old stuff is both. Not
sure how to proceed without loosing some sent emails.

Thanks for everyone's help!

You shouldn't lose anything if you don't delete anything.

Recreating the Exchange account in a *different* identity will preserve
your messages in your old identity. Just don't *delete* and recreate
your identity. You should be safe to test.

You¹re not alone.
We have a few folks here with the same issue.

Trying to find out why, but I did create a new profile on another Mac and
Sent Items is populated, like it should be.
So...looks like something on the profile got hosed possibly during
conversion during the beta.
Did you use the beta?

All,

I have a hunch this is related to the beta.
On two Macs that we used the betas on, they exhibit this issue.
On new installs, no issues.
Last night, I exported all my data and created a new profile.
I imported that data today.
Everything including Sent Items is working they¹re not lost, just not
showing.
Now, all items are there, intact.

So...I think the answer is the above.

Good luck,
Scott

Spoke too soon...it was good, now I¹m back to no Sent Items, unless they¹re
from Webmail or the Blackberry.
