Sent Mail Saved Only Intermittently

I am having a problem which seems to have been reported by other users,
especially here: http://tinyurl.com/59hak

Specifically, my sent mail seems to disappear, usually immediately upon
sending it. However, the twist in my case is that some of it is saved,
but the majority appears not to be saved. This is aggravating, and is
beginning to affect my work performance because I rely on previously
sent e-mails to a great extent.

I finally decided to ask for help because today I clicked into my sent
mail folder to retrieve a message I had sent only minutes before, and
saw the message for a split second before it disappeared before my
eyes. Searches through all of my folders for the message turned up
nothing. Needless to say, I was slightly irked.

I am using the company's IMAP setup, I have no rules for outgoing mail,
and there are no schedules set which delete anything except deleted
items. Also, my settings are properly configured to show all messages,
and I definitely have the box checked to save all outgoing mail.

I am extremely perplexed by this, and would appreciate any help.

I also posted several times also about the vanishing emails, and I FOUND
where the messages went. Instead of in the Sent Items folder on my Exchange
account, they were stuck into the "Outbox" folder in "On My Computer"!

I found about 20 missing emails there, and dragged them into the folder I
expected them to be in. Now I know where to look if my sent items turn up
missing again.

Hope this helps

Unfortunately, I just checked in the place that you suggested and I
didn't find my missing e-mails. Thanks for the suggestion, though. Are
you using IMAP or POP?

Okay, this sounds like a problem we've encountered with E2004. In the
end, we found the answer (or workaround) was to change the way your
Sent Items are presented.

You'll need to view your Sent Items folder so that you can access all
of the header/columns (so this means choosing a preview pane *below*
the folder's list of messages).

Then, click on the little blue asterisk (Message Status) and watch...

We've found that this puts all the Sent Items back into the right
order. Don't ask me why this is the case... We've let MS know about it.

Hope that works,

I'm using our company's Exchange server, contracted out to HP. It works like
an IMAP account.

To "Paul", I'm not sure what was supposed to happen differently from sorting
the Sent Items. My sent messages were tossed into a different folder
entirely after getting the error after sending.

Paul,

Thanks for the suggestion. It didn't make any of my old messages
re-appear (though I guess I didn't expect it to, since I have done
searches and not found them, so I assume they've somehow been deleted)
but perhaps it will make future messages display correctly.

I don't know, though. It seems like they're being totally deleted
rather than just displayed oddly. But, like I said, I'll give it a shot
and see what happens.
